Creating this unit has really touched on all our standards of practice. By teaching students about global bullying we are addressing our commitment to student and student learning by having out students learn to think critically about bullying in a global sense and asking them to take action by creating their PSA as a culminating task. This asks students to be more empathetic and increases their awareness of how bullying can be much more than a global issue.
By collaborating on this blog we have both opened the door to establishing a leadership role in our learning community and enhanced our ongoing professional learning. By becoming more familiar with the programs that can be used to make a blog interactive and a valuable resource for the students we teach, both Steve and I are now able to go back to our schools in the fall and teach other teachers how to create a similar site.
By working collaboratively we have both enhanced our professional knowledge and professional practice. We have been able to share resources and teaching strategies that we did not make use of before and create a unit that will enhance not only our media literacy teaching next year but we have also found ways to make our core subjects more relevant and more engaging for our students.
